Rules & Mechanics
Riftbound Radiance New Mechanics Guide
Radiance's music theme comes to life through mechanics that track your spellcasting tempo. Expand each keyword below for a plain-language rule summary and a practical combat example.
Getting Started
Riftbound Beginner Guide
Riftbound is Riot Games' official League of Legends trading card game, where champions, units, and spells battle to reduce the enemy Nexus to zero. This guide takes you from unboxing to your first win.
Learn the Win Condition
Each player starts with a Nexus at 20 Health. You win by reducing your opponent's Nexus to 0. Units attack the Nexus directly when unblocked, and spell damage can also target the Nexus — so board control and aggression both lead to victory.
Understand the Turn Flow
Each turn follows a consistent sequence: Draw, then gain mana (mana crystals increase by one each turn, up to 10), then play cards — Champions, Units, and Spells — and finally declare attacks with your units. Some cards can be played at Instant speed during your opponent's turn to react and bluff.
Know Your Card Types
Champions are your most powerful units with unique upgrade conditions; Units fill the battlefield and carry keywords like Quick Attack, Barrier, and Overwhelm; Spells provide combat tricks, removal, and buffs, and synergize heavily with Magic-attribute champions like Sona.
Build Your First Deck
Standard Riftbound decks contain 40 cards with up to 3 copies of each card, built around one or two champions. New players should pick a single champion and support it with efficient units and spells that match its game plan — aggression, control, or spell-synergy combos.
Buy the Right Starter Product
Start with a Two-Player Starter Set to learn with a friend, or a Preconstructed Champion Deck for an immediate tournament-legal deck. Once you know your favorite playstyle, move on to Booster Boxes from the Radiance expansion to customize and upgrade your list.
Quick Tips
- Get the Two-Player Starter Set — two tournament-legal decks and a playmat in one box
- Play spells before combat so Rhythm bonuses are active when you attack
- Keep your curve smooth: 1-2 mana plays early, save mana for Instant-speed tricks
- 40 cards is the deck minimum — fewer copies of more cards makes decks inconsistent

Deck Guides
Riftbound Radiance Best Decks
The strongest archetypes in the Radiance environment, each with its core game plan, matchup outlook, and affordable card swaps for players building on a budget.
Noxus Aggro (Darius / Jinx)
- Strategy
- Flood the board early, push damage every turn, and close with Darius's overwhelm damage or Jinx's card engine once the hand runs dry.
- Matchups
- Favored against slow control decks; struggles vs. heavy board wipes and Frostbite stall.
- Budget Swaps
- Replace Darius with a second copy of a mid-cost Noxus unit and use common removal spells instead of rares.
Demacia Midrange (Garen / Lux)
- Strategy
- Trade efficiently in the early game, stabilize with Garen's regeneration, and generate overwhelming value with Lux's spell payoff in the late game.
- Matchups
- Strong vs. aggro thanks to healing and blockers; even-to-unfavorable vs. dedicated combo lists.
- Budget Swaps
- Swap Lux for a second Garen package and use common combat-trick spells to maintain tempo.
Freljord Control (Ashe / Leona)
- Strategy
- Stall the board with Frostbite effects and stuns, exhaust opponent resources, then win with repeated Champion attacks once the coast is clear.
- Matchups
- Excellent against aggro and midrange; weak to fast spell-based burn that ignores the board.
- Budget Swaps
- Use common stun and freeze units in place of rare Champions while keeping the same stall package.
Radiance Champions (Leona / Yasuo)
- Strategy
- Chain stuns and displacement effects to lock down enemy attackers while Yasuo converts every disabled unit into free damage.
- Matchups
- Great vs. unit-heavy decks; struggles vs. spell-heavy control that plays around the board.
- Budget Swaps
- Substitute common stun units for Leona until you pull her from packs.
